FAQs
Why tutoring in small groups?
The HSC can be an extremely stressful time in the life of a student. Students can respond to this stress in different ways, including work avoidance or having an overwhelming sense that they "don't know where to start." One-on-one tutoring can be greatly beneficial but I believe that students respond really well to working closely with peers who can challenge and inspire them in a time where their own classrooms can feel awkwardly competitive or stressful. Their 'tutoring buddies' can learn alongside them, ask different kinds of questions and offer a range of perspectives.

How many students are in the group?
Our groups are capped at 6 students per session, this gives me ample opportunities to provide one-on-one assistance and feedback in the session and to prepare personalised lessons for students based on their set texts.

What do you focus on in the sessions?
Many students still need assistance to get their ideas onto paper in the senior years, but there is very little time for teachers to review these skills in the English classroom. With the right support, students can learn how to write effective essays that truly showcase what they know, rather than their ideas getting bogged down or lost in the process. Our sessions have a strong focus on essay and paragraph writing.
Our classes are intentionally kept small to allow for flexibility and personalisation when necessary. Each week we will focus on the skills that are relevant for the students in the room.
Which courses do you offer and when?
Our current sessions are:
English Advanced, Tuesdays 4:30-6:00pm and
English Standard, Wednesdays 4:30-6:00pm at Thirroul Library.
Our Term 4 sessions will run from Week 4 - Week 9 of the term (first date November 1st, last date December 7th).

Our tutoring sessions run during school term and follow the most common pattern of study.

Can you tutor my child at a different time or for a different Module?
With enough demand, I can create new sessions if your school follows a different pattern (for example, if they study Module B in Term 1, 2023 as opposed to Term 2), or if you would like an alternative day or time. Please reach out if you have any questions or requests and I will see if I can accommodate.

How much are the sessions?
Tutoring sessions are $80 per 1.5 hour class with an experienced HSC English teacher and HSC Marker. You can pay in instalments.
What can I expect in each session?
Students can expect personalised content based on their texts and skill level, consistent written and verbal feedback, dedicated writing time, assessment support when relevant to the student and the opportunity to submit one piece of writing for detailed feedback each week.
